The 2008 Ryder Cup Countdown

With the 2008 Ryder cup just around the corner, I thought that a section of the website dedicated to player profiles, famous Ryder Cup video clips of course a bit of jovial Yank bashing, might be just the ticket to get you salivating over what is arguably the fiercest rivalry in sport.
Who would have thought that a game involving hitting a little ball into a hole in the ground could generate such emotion and competition, but on 16th September 2008 the 12 best golfers from the United States take on the finest 12 that Europe have to offer, to battle it out for the illustrious Samuel Ryder Cup.

The 2008 and 36th Ryder cup has all the ingredients to be yet another classic encounter, with great form being seen from the Europeans in the shape of Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez claiming his first PGA Championship title with a play-off victory over Oliver Wilson (A Brit) and of course the ongoing brilliance of America’s Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.
But this is the Ryder Cup and history tells us you had might as well throw the form book out of the window!
The beauty of this competition is that it transforms the game of golf from what is conventionally an individual sport into a team event, completely changing the dynamics of the game – particularly when the game is played in the Foursomes format, which this year, is the format which the teams will start with.
Foursomes is the epitome of team work, with each player having to work with his teammate to provide support, encouragement and course management tactics.
Historically, despite their depth of often superior talent, the Americans have performed poorly at Foursomes but is this the year they will get their act together and show the rest of the world just how good the Yanks are. We’ll see.
So what do you reckon?
Can Europe win their third successive Ryder Cup under the leadership of Nick Faldo?
or
Will Paul Azinger inspire the Yanks to perform to their true potential and deliver a performance that will humble the European?
Well put your money where your mouth is!
