How Do I Shift My Christmas Weight - Part 2?
So, you've eaten your body weight in Turkey, Mince Pies and stilton and you've now decided it's time to address the effect they have had on your waistline.
So what is the best way to do it?
Well you have 3 choices.
1. Eat more sensibly and don't bother exercising
2. Eat more sensibly and exercise
3. Keep eating trash and exercise.
Naturally, I'd encourage you to opt for option 2 but to be honest, a mixture of option 2 and 3 are generally more realistic.
So, assuming you want to follow my advice and trust my expertise in helping people lose weight, the following sections of the "How do I shift my Christmas weight" series, will cover what forms of exercise are best to help you sculpt that stomach.
Running
Arguably to weapon of choice to help melt away the flab, running is one of the best forms of exercise to get you fit, toned and slender.
The trouble is, many people don't know where to start with running and are often daunted about the prospect of pounding the pavements for the first time.
The thing to remember, as with any form of exercise, is that you should be doing it for enjoyment. If you can't find a way to enjoy running, then it's unlikely you'll stick to it. So, to make sure you are not put off running in the early stages, why not follow the following tips:
Listen to music
Music can be hugely motivational whilst running and if you are listening to a selection of your favourite songs, you can lose yourself in the music and running becomes a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
Start gently
A common mistake people make when they start running is feeling that they have to go out for a long time or set off too fast. This often results in despondency as you are invariably left collapsed in a heap after 5 mins with your lungs burning and swearing you'll never run again.
So for the first 2 weeks or so FORGET ABOUT RUNNING FAST OR FAR.
Run at a really gentle pace for just 15-20 mins and if you want to walk every now and again, that's fine. Concentrate more on listening to some great music on your iPod than running fast and you'll be amazed at how enjoyable running can be.
Running Gadgets
Running gadgets such as heart rate monitors and distance measuring devices are great fun to use if you are into gadgets and gizmos. They can help give you feedback on how you are doing and are essential if you want to see how much your fitness levels are improving.
