Marathon & Running Training Questions

If you have been redirected to here from marathonconsultancy.co.uk I do apologise for the confusion.
FitFAQS.co.uk is written by the same person, but due to a number of reasons which I will not bore you with, the content from marathon consultancy is slowly being drafted across to here, where you will find far more than just marathon training information (see home page)
The format has changed slightly from marathon consultancy which hopefully you’ll find easier to follow and quicker to find out exactly what you want to know.
Take a look at the tabs to your left down at the bottom and you’ll see a selection of questions about marathon nutrition and training. Just click on the question you want to know the answer to and read on.
Enjoy and good luck with your training.
If you currently training for, or considering, training for a half or full marathon, i strongly suggest you consider buying my book "The Marathon and Half Marathon: A Training Guide."
Depsite being only just published, in November 2007, it is already the fastest selling running book on Amazon and proving so popular that even Waterstones (a notoriously difficult to place to get a book stocked) has doubled its nationwide stock in just 4 months.
Not only am i overwhelmed at how well it has been received, but so glad that it has receieved equal praise from both marathon and half marathon runners. It was an incredibly diffcult task to write a book appliacable to both distances, but from the emails i have received so far it seems to be popular with both sets of runners.
Since publication, it has been endorsed by dozens of charites and recommended by the Great North Run. The book contains all you need to know about endurance training helping to make the whole experience an enjoyable and injury freee one!

Reviews submitted to fitFAQS:
- This is by far the best marathon book on the market, with easy-to-digest sections and plenty of information on all aspects of long distance running. The author clearly writes from experience, and the section on how to stay motivated was particularly relevant for me! I can't recommend this book enough and I've now bought a copy as a Christmas present for everyone I know running a marathon in 2008!

- Being a novice and first time half marathon/(hopeful) marathon runner, i am finding this book easy reading with great pictures. So many marathon books are just full of boring text, which lets face it, is as mundane as long distance running. I have found the images fantasitc to break up the book and training guides sensible and realistic - its nice to see that the author caters for those of us who aren't born runners. Amazingly, i am actaully getting better and I am actually starting to enjoy my training. Great book! Good luck with your training!

- I am seriously toying with the idea of running the London Marathon in April and spent ages looking for a decent book to help me with my training. I was recommended this book purely on the advice of a friend who hadn't read it, but mentioned that it is the same author who had written the marathon training guide supplied by her charity when she ran London last year and found his advice really helpful.
Although I've only just started training, i can honestly say i love this book. It's perhaps not as "pretty" as other publications, with fluffy cartoons everywhere, but it is by far the most comprehensive training guide i have come across. All my anxieties about what to eat and when, how to stay hydrated and how to deal with the dreaded injuries and monotony of training are all clearly explained and the chapter on motivation is also really helpful. The photos are great too - but the faces on some people finishing the marathon makes me wonder what I'm letting myself in for!
I've a long way to go before the race but i would defo recommend this book to anyone flirting with the idea of running a half or full marathon.
FLM 2008 here we come!

- This is the best running training book I have come across. It doesn't just apply to marathons - could easily apply to 10k's as well. Chapters are all well laid out so you can simply jump to the section that is relevant to you. If you are worried about your knees or are wanting a really appropriate training regime this book has it all thought through for you. No myths or beating about the bush - it tells you how - or perhaps how not... you can get through it.
